This report describes an Amateur Radio emergency preparedness training exercise, the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Simulated Emergency Test (SET). The intended audience for this report is those responsible for emergency management planning in Westchester County, NY. As such, some background information about Amateur Radio emergency communications is provided in addition to information about the specific drill.
On the days leading up to and during the weekend of October 4-5, the Westchester County Amateur Radio Emergency Service/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (ARES/RACES) group of volunteer Amateur Radio operators responded to a simulated hurricane threatening the City of Rye. Portions of Rye's recently-enacted hurricane/coastal storm evacuation plan were exercised.
